9/7/07

Again, I was out with a cold this day. Here are the instructions I left for the sub:

Lesson Plans for 9/7
Mrs. Liao

*Note: the bell cannot be heard out here. Please dismiss students at the proper time, not earlier.

English 4 (Periods 1 &7)

Students should use one of the prompts they answered yesterday to write a personal essay draft. At the end of the period, please collect all essays, the prompts from yesterday, and this week’s launches. Put all work together in a binder clip (in the second drawer of my desk) and leave the stack on my desk.

Study Skills (Period 3)

As students arrive, please instruct them to get their books from the center table in the room. Let them know that they will be doing SSR today and that we will continue CAHSEE prep. once I return on Monday. At the end of the period, students should return their books to the table.

English 3 (Periods 4 & 6)

Before students arrive, please write the following prompt on the board:

Please write an in-class essay in response to the following prompt: If you had lived back when Plymouth and Jamestown were first settled by Europeans, which town would you want to live in? Give at least three reasons for your response. Include an introduction and a conclusion. Keep in mind that this is the first piece of writing you are turning in for me, so do your best, but don’t worry too much about making it perfect…this is a draft after all. Also, don’t worry too much if you don’t have time to finish; get as much done as you can and then turn it in at the end of the period.

At the end of the class period, please collect their essays from today, their vocabulary definitions and sentences from yesterday, as well as this week’s launches.

AP (Period 5)

Before students arrive, please write the following on the board:

Review the three AP essay prompts I have given you this week (2 handouts and yesterday’s prompt on the board). Every AP exam has these three styles of essays: one based on a prose passage, one based on a poem or poems, and one based on a novel or play you have read. Choose one of these prompts to write an in-class essay on today. This essay should be in the AP style (i.e. no introduction, just a thesis and then get to the point).

At the end of class, please collect this essay, their take home essay from this week, and this week’s launches.

Thanks,
Teresa Liao

(If the students are asking about me, feel free to let them know that I’ve already got a cold and will be back on Monday when I’m feeling a bit better and won’t be so contagious. Thanks again.)
