1. What strategies can you use to express yourself in poetry?
Launch: Brainstorm a list of labels that you feel society in general or specific people have placed on you. What messages would you want to send to those who have labeled you or who would attempt to label you?

1. Review Poems of Identity and the poetic devices at work to create meaning.
2. Using your launch, write your own poem of identity.
Homework: Independent reading.

Launch: Write down at least two questions you have about chapter 3 of Sound & Sense.

Homework: Start reading independent book. Be sure to keep a journal as you go: summarize each chapter, identify any literary devices, and develop a list of questions.
