Launch: Thinking about your favorite celebrity, what sorts of information would you want to know about him/her that you don't already know? (Write a paragraph or create a list of questions.)

1. In groups, compare launches and create list of common information.
2. Class discussion in which we will develop a list of personal statement requirements.
3. Read sample personal essay.

1. How do you go about answering the essay questions on the AP exam?
2. What are the requirements of a "long-form?"
Launch: Read the essay prompt and identify what the prompt asks you to do. How would you go about writing this essay?

1. Discuss launch.
2. Go over long-form.
Homework: Read chapter 1 of Sound & Sense. At the end of the chapter you will find a section called "Suggestions for Writing." Write an essay based on the first of the two options there. Due Friday.
